Letter to Parents 2 July 2021

Dear Parents / Carers

Welcome

We have had some new starters over the past three weeks and I would like to extend a warm welcome to all
children and parents joining us for the first time. The children have settled in well and are engaging in the fun
activities.

So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Adios, Au Revoir

I am sorry to have to inform you that Tracey Onan has left Eaton Mill Nursery this week. Tracey has been given
an opportunity too good to be missed and one which will see her continue to work for the good of vulnerable
children.
Tracey has managed the Nursery since July 2017 and has worked tirelessly to ensure that all children who
attend the Nursery receive the highest possible care and education.
Tracey has always had the happiness and wellbeing of the children at the heart of everything she does and so
much of what is great about the nursery is a reflection of her dedication.
I am sure that you will all join me in thanking Tracey for her service and in wishing her all the very best with her
future endeavours. Hopefully she’ll pop back in and see us sometime.

Onwards And Upwards

I am delighted to inform you that Amy Taylor has taken on the role of Nursery Manager. Amy is an experienced,
qualified teacher who joined the Nursery in April 2021. She has settled in well and has had a comprehensive
handover. I am sure that you all know who she is but if you are at all unsure then please just ask and she will
introduce herself to you.
Additionally, I am equally delighted to inform you that Julie Milton has joined the Nursery in the role of Deputy
Manager. Some of you may already know Julie as she worked in the Nursery for many years and brings with her
a wealth of experience. Once again if you are unsure as to who Julie is then please let us know.

Nursery Places

We are currently taking bookings at the Nursery for children who are eligible to join us. If you or someone you
know has a child aged two or over and you would like them to join our Nursery, or your child already attends and
you wish to increase their sessions, please speak to Nicola in the Atrium for more details.
Please note that spaces are getting booked up very quickly and will be allocated on a first-come, first served
basis.

Letter to Parents 21 May 2021

Dear Parents / Carers

End Of Learning Block 6

I cannot believe how quickly this learning block has flown by! We have had lots of new children join us and we
would like to welcome all children and parents who are joining us for the first time.
We have had a very busy learning block and the children have enjoyed all the fun activities on offer. Our Frozen
themed corner has gone down a storm!

School Readiness

As previously reported all our children who are transitioning from the Nursery to The Premier Academy in
September will begin their familiarisation sessions after the two-week break.
These sessions will take place as part of their normal Nursery attendance pattern and will be for the duration of
the final learning block before the summer break.
The children will still need to arrive at and be collected from the Nursery entrance. Once settled the children will
then spend a morning or afternoon, and possibly a whole day, in the Reception classrooms with their new
Reception team. Nursery members of staff will also be on hand to provide continuity of care.
We will manage the sessions in house, and they will remain fluid depending on individual children’s needs and
any factors arising on the day, and you will be informed during your daily feedback whether your child has had a
familiarisation session that day.
We have run this programme previously with great success, so I do not envisage any issues. However, should
you have any questions or queries at any point, please do not hesitate to speak to Tracey or Amy who will be
happy to help.

As you know, EMW is a separate organisation to The Premier Academy (TPA), however, as it shares its
premises with TPA the Nursery Directors have determined that EMW will operate with the same
protocols as TPA. Therefore here is some relevant information from TPA:

Vaccine Update

The vaccines are proving to be the conquistadors of 2021. All seven are working against the different variants
which is great news for us all and especially good news for those who are vaccinated. The number of TPA and
EMW staff vaccinated now stands at 78% first dose and 12% both doses.
We have now not had a case of Covid-19 in either TPA or EMW for 15 weeks which is brilliant news for a school
and nursery this size in one of the worst hit areas of MK and is testament to the way we have all approached this
virus.

Indian Variant

Unfortunately, the Indian variant is now dominant in Bedford and South Northants and as we are sandwiched
between these two hotspots it is critically important that we keep our guard up. It seems that we are in a straight
race between the vaccination programme and the spread of the virus and therefore the sooner we are all
vaccinated the safer we all are. The link below takes you to the vaccine booking site.
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/

Governor Update

The governors met on Tuesday evening and decided that due to the rise of the Indian Variant the status quo will
be maintained following the holiday and until further notice.

Last Day Of Learning Block 6

we look forward to welcoming you all back on Monday 7 June.

Letter to Parents 7 May 2021

Dear Parents / Carers

Welcome

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all children and parents joining us for the first time. The children have settled in well and are engaging in the fun activities.

School Readiness

We are working closely with TPA to ensure a smooth transition in to school for those children who will be joining the Academy in September. As part of this, I am delighted to inform you that following the upcoming two-week break, we will be arranging familiarisation sessions for our ‘school age children’ transitioning in to TPA; these will take place as part of their normal Nursery attendance pattern and will be for the duration of the final learning block before the summer break.
The purpose of these sessions is to familiarise the children with the Reception learning base and with some of the adults who will be teaching them. This will help to make their transition in to the Academy in September as seamless as possible.
The children will still need to arrive at and be collected from the Nursery entrance. Once settled, a group of children will then spend a morning or afternoon, and possibly a whole day, in the Reception classrooms with their new Reception team. A member of Nursery staff will also be on hand to provide continuity of care. We will ensure that all children receive equal sessions across the six weeks and they will get an excellent introduction to the class and lunch routines in preparation for September. We will manage the sessions in house, and they will remain fluid depending on individual children’s needs and any factors arising on the day, and you will be informed during your daily feedback whether your child has had a settle session that day.
We have run this programme previously with great success, so I do not envisage any issues. However, should you have any questions or queries at any point, please do not hesitate to speak to Tracey or Amy who will be happy to help.

Food And Snacks In Nursery

We would like to remind parents that we provide all snacks, food and drinks for children whilst they are attending their sessions at Nursery and therefore food and drink of any sort should not be put into children’s bags even if it is to be consumed after your child has been collected.
Please check your child’s coat pockets regularly as some sneaky sweets made their way in to Nursery this week!
Thank you for your cooperation with this.

Changeable Weather

It’s really challenging knowing what to dress the children in at the moment. One minute it’s sunny but cold and the next it’s wet and warm. During this changeable weather it is really important that the children attend nursery in appropriate clothing. We find that layers are a really good way to help us manage the children’s comfort and well-being. So for example, if your child is wearing a jumper, please ensure that they have a T-shirt or something cooler underneath.

Sun Cream

We may be being a little hopeful but we would like to be prepared for when the sun, with heat, finally decides to show its face.
Therefore, we thought it prudent to let you know the policy and procedure for the application of sun cream in the Nursery. During hot weather we ask parents to send their child in to nursery preferably with ‘all day’ sun cream applied. We appreciate that sometimes there is a need to apply or reapply sun cream during the day. In this instance we use Asda Protect Kids Sensitive Formula Sun Lotion High SPF 50.
If you do not wish your child to have the Nursery’s Asda sun cream applied you can provide your preferred sun cream from home. Please ensure that the bottle is clearly labelled with your child’s name and is left in the Nursery for the remainder of the summer term. If you have not already done so, please send in your preferred sun cream next week so that we can act quickly should the sun come out!

Chicken Pox

We have a confirmed case of Chicken Pox within the Nursery. Chicken Pox is a very common and very itchy illness which usually gets better by itself after 1 to 2 weeks without needing to see a GP. Many of you will already know the signs and symptoms, however for those of you who have not experienced this before, here is some information that may help you.
Your child will need to stay away from Nursery until all the spots have crusted over which usually takes about 5 days after the spots appear. There are other symptoms to be aware of which might appear before or after the spots, so you should keep your child at home if they present with any of the following:
• A high temperature
• Aches and pains, generally feeling unwell
• Loss of appetite
Treatment:
• Drink plenty of fluids
• Give paracetamol not Ibuprofen as this can cause skin infections
• Use cooling creams or gels
• Bathe in cool water
• Dress in loose clothes
Note: If your child has, or you suspect they may have Chicken Pox, contact with pregnant women and new-born babies should be avoided.
