Letter to Parents 12 March 2021

Dear Parents / Carers

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to all the children, parents and families of Eaton Mill Nursery. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all children and parents joining us for the first time. Both new and existing children have settled in well and are engaging in the fun activities.

Thank You

Thank you all for your patience and understanding this week whilst we settle back into our routines. Your support and co-operation is very much appreciated.

Masks

We are very aware that as a 67 year old site there are areas where it is impossible to social distance which is why we are asking all adults to wear a mask. This is particularly difficult with the entrance to Reception and Nursery. Therefore please ensure that you do not enter the site without a mask. This is a requirement that will be reviewed at regular intervals in line with developments around COVID risk levels.

Nursery Places

We are currently taking bookings at the Nursery for children who are eligible to join us. If you or someone you know has a child aged two or over and you would like them to join our Nursery, or your child already attends and you wish to increase their sessions, please speak to Nicola in the Atrium for more details. Please note that spaces get booked up very quickly and will be allocated on a first-come, first served basis.

End Of Day Release

In order to ease congestion we will continue to open the gates at 3.10pm. This is a window for arrival between 3.10pm and 3.20pm. Please ensure that you collect your nursery child before collecting any school children.

Last Day Of Learning Block 6

Finally, we would like to remind you that the last day of Learning Block 6 is Friday 26 March. We close for one week and one day re-open on Tuesday 6 April.
Nursery holiday dates for 2020-2021 and 2021 – 2022 can be collected from the Atrium or viewed online at
www.eatonmillnursery.co.uk.

Take care and stay safe.

Dear Parents/Carers

Hands On Learning

I hope that you are all keeping well and were able to try out and enjoy the activities suggested in
the Hands On Learning documents that were uploaded to our website.
We have today uploaded a brand new one that is full of fresh, fun ideas with exciting educational
activities which cover the 7 areas of learning.
It would be wonderful to see photos of any activities that the children are doing at home or indeed
any finished works in relation to baking or arts & crafts.
Please email photos in to admin@eatonmillnursery.co.uk and you will get a reply.

Zoom

By now I hope that you have had a chance to join in with our Zoom sessions which have been a
big hit with everyone. We have received many positive comments from parents and I would like to
thank you for taking the time to email in. It is very much appreciated.
We have really enjoyed seeing the children (and in some cases their parents) in the sessions and
the level of engagement has been very high.
Reminder: Zoom sessions are held every Tuesday and Thursday and you can choose one or
more of the sessions offered on each day for your child to attend. It’s the same link every time and
we always send a text message the day before the scheduled call with the required Zoom call link
just in case you have forgotten it. Don’t forget to put your child’s name on the Zoom call!

Water Eaton Community Larder

The Water Eaton Community Larder is open through lockdown. This is a membership food
scheme available for all to access. It costs £10 per annum (membership fee) and then £3.50 per
week. It is open to anyone to join. A number of our parents are finding it to be an affordable way to
regularly access healthy food. An individual membership provides up to 10 items of nonperishables (pasta, tins etc) per week plus free fruit and vegetables. There are additional benefits
too. To find out more, click on the following link:

Big Garden Birdwatch 2021

Are you ready for the excitement of the Big Garden Birdwatch this weekend, 29 – 31 January
2021.
Everyone can take part for free online, whether you’re a novice birdwatcher, or a seasoned pro.
Please follow the link below to get started. The RSPB website also has a Fun and Learning
homepage which has some exciting activities for you to do.
https://www.rspb.org.uk/get-involved/activities/birdwatch/everything-you-need-to-know-about-biggarden-birdwatch/
Count the birds you see in your garden or from your balcony. Ignore any birds that are still in flight.
To avoid double-counting, just record the highest number of each bird species you see at any one
time – not a running total.
Don’t forget to submit your results online. You can submit your results at
www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch from 29 January until 19 February.
Every count is important so, if you don’t see anything, please still submit your result. Finding out
which birds don’t visit your area is as important as understanding those which do!
HAVE FUN!

Adult Feeling Low?

The pandemic has led to many people feeling low, anxious or on edge. The Talking Therapies
Service provides adults with support and treatment, providing a range of talking therapies for
anxiety, worry or depression. Currently, support is mainly offered by telephone, video or online.
You can refer yourself by calling, sending an email or using the online self-referral form. Your GP
can also make the referral for you. For parents who do not have English as a first language then
an interpreter is provided for you. Once your referral has been received, you will be contacted
within a week for an initial consultation.
The service can be accessed via the following website link: https://mktalkingtherapies.nhs.uk/ .
Support

Please remember that if you would like some support or guidance with education or wellbeing
matters, you can email admin@eatonmillnursery.co.uk outlining your area of need and we will
arrange for the person best suited to your needs to respond.

Take care and stay safe.

Dear Parents/Carers

Primary School Applications

If your child was born between 1 September 2016 and 31 August 2017 they will be due to transfer to primary school in September 2021. Places are not issued automatically and an application must be submitted online to Milton Keynes Council, www.milton-keynes.gov.uk/schooladmissions
The application portal is live and it is imperative that you apply for your child’s place in good time and before the strict deadline of Friday 15 January 2021. We had some families last year who missed the deadline and who wanted but were not allocated a place at TPA.
Please note that children who attend Eaton Mill Nursery are given priority for Reception places at TPA but ONLY if you complete the online application before Friday 15 January 2021. The school currently has a waiting list of 24 children for the current Reception so please complete your application ASAP.
If you need any assistance with the process then please call and speak to one of the ladies in the Atrium.

Hands On Learning

As promised in LTP 77, the ‘Hands on Learning’ documents that we sent out during the first lockdown have now been uploaded on to our website. These documents are filled with fun and educational activities for you to share with your child. For those of you who have already enjoyed the previous versions you will find a brand new one filled with exciting educational activities which covers the 7 areas of learning.
It would be wonderful to see photos of any activities that the children are doing at home or indeed any finished works in relation to baking or arts and crafts.
Please email photos in to admin@eatonmillnursery.co.uk and you will get a reply.

Hungry Little Minds

Hungry Little Minds is a Department for Education campaign that encourages parents and carers to adopt positive activities and behaviours to boost children’s communication, language and literacy development.
I have attached the link https://hungrylittleminds.campaign.gov.uk as I think it could be a really useful tool for you. It aims to help parents/carers to understand that they have a massive impact on their children’s learning. Reading, playing and chatting with them are simple things that you can do to help them develop, even when they are too young to say much back. Parents can access tips and activities ranging from 0 – 5 years of age.
Have fun!

Zoom

We have been asked by parents as to whether or not we could offer some face to face contact with the children via Zoom. As you know most of the nursery staff are currently furloughed but we are looking into the feasibility of this and will let you know in due course.

Thank You

I would like to take this opportunity to say a big ‘thank you’ to those of you who have emailed in with kind words of support. It is very much appreciated and I know that we will all get through this together albeit, for now, at a distance!

Support

Please remember if you would like some support or guidance with education or wellbeing matters, email admin@eatonmillnursery.co.uk outlining your area of need and we will arrange for the person best suited to your needs to respond.

In the meantime thank you for your support during what has been a very difficult year for us all. Here’s hoping that Spring 2021 brings a successful roll out of the vaccine and some semblance of getting back to normal!

Take care and stay safe.
