The Enchanted Forest

This year’s nursery development focusses on the outdoors and we are well on our way to raising the money, as we have already raised £5,600 of our target of £10,000. We have applied for a lottery grant for £10,000 which will mean that we will be able to proceed this year if we are successful.

As you know we have a rather restricted area for outdoor play and the school has kindly given us an area of land for us to develop for the nursery children. The area will be known as, The Enchanted Forest, and will include scented plants, shrubs and bushes to attract insects and bird life and provide colour and fragrant sensations for the senses. We will make use of this area to help children learn more about their natural environment, growing cycles and the insect and bird life within it.

The sensory area will include planter beds, architectural planting, tactile objects and features that will stimulate the senses of touch, smell, sight and hearing. It will help the children to better understand their environment and will greatly improve their awareness of issues faced by some of their class mates who have significant Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) thereby helping them to understand their needs and limitations.

We also wish to install environmentally friendly wooden buildings that will provide storage, a growing shed and learning areas.  This will mean that we can use this area all year round ensuring that the children have regular learning experiences in the open air, in different seasons, whilst protected against the elements such as rain or strong sunlight.  Due to the location of the wooded area we will also be installing power to the site thereby further enhancing the learning opportunities. It will enable us to install multi-coloured lighting that will further enhance the sensory experience.  The area will also provide somewhere to provide activities that focus on nature, growing, ecology and the environment.

We will be writing to you soon with some information about a sponsored jump and we hope that all children in the nursery will be able participate and hope in some way to raise some funds for the project.

Many thanks for your continued support.

Yours sincerely
